Quebec Immigration

Canada’s federal government has allowed Quebec a comparatively lenient approach regarding immigration policies and procedures, thus, Quebec’s immigration programs are often separated from the rest of the provinces.

Immigration to Quebec requires approval from two separate processes: selection and admission. Selection is done at the provincial level and the approved individual is then given A Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), a certificate provided by the provincial immigration authorities. Admission is done at the federal level. Therefore, an applicant must gain approval from both the federal government and the province of Quebec to be deemed eligible.

One of the pathways to becoming a permanent resident of Quebec is through The Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSW). As a points-based program, applicants must attain a certain score to be eligible for the QSW.

The Quebec Experience Program (PEQ) is one of the programs that allow foreign nationals to become permanent residents of Quebec. The requirements of this program include but aren’t limited to: experience in the province of Quebec (as a temporary foreign worker or international student), intermediate knowledge of oral French, the applicant must be residing within Quebec at the time of application submission.

The Quebec Self-Employed Worker Program allows self-employed individuals to immigrate to Quebec and work there. An asset of $100 000 and two years of experience of being self-employed in the respective field is required to qualify for this program.
